LETTER: Shoppers will look for free parking

The present parking works well, but if it’s unlimited street parking the workers take the places and the shoppers can’t park. If you charge shoppers, they will look for free parking elsewhere and leave Spalding town centre. Pay-on-exit car parks, yes that will help, and also mark the on-street parking into bays to stop the poor standard on abandoning the ...

LETTER: What about those living on other side of the crossing?

I cannot do anything other than agree with the sentiments you make regarding the dangers of weaving through closed crossings. Unfortunately, for my wife and I, and of course our neighbours, we live on the wrong side of Mill Green and Park Road barriers. Could Network Rail please help us understand how, when the barriers are down for four plus ...

I have just read the article in this week’s Voice, regarding the go ahead on the brownfield site near Northons Lane. I am a resident in Northons Lane and would like to point out my big concern is not the drainage as such but the main sewerage pipe, which can not cope with the existing properties now, and has had ...

LETTER: Police will only attend even numbered homes?

If it is true that police forces are to consider only attending reported burglaries of even numbered properties, will those people in odd numbered ones be entitled to rebates from the police precept? Will there be greater risk for those residents of odd numbered properties as I’m sure that burglars can also read the reports. I’m considering removing my house ...

LETTER: Dismay over losing car parking

My first reaction to the new look for Spalding was dismay at the proposal to lose parking spaces by making the Sheep Market vehicle free, also loss of parking in The Crescent and Broad Street. We have gained one particularly good retailer in Hughes Electrical in the Sheep Market and we do not want to lose them. We have bought ...

LETTER: Empty sites could offer housing

As there is at present a shortage of affordable housing to rent, why are there so many sites standing empty for such a long time? The old Johnson Hospital and nurses home, the old post office sorting office, Crowson’s garage site, The Bull and Monkie, to name just a few. Surely the council must have the authority to compulsory purchase? ...

LETTER: Toilets don’t need replacing

Regarding the report by Quarterbridge Project management on the front page of your newspaper. To quote from the report “the town of Spalding has potential to become more successful and lively”. Many of the proposals in that report could well realise these aims but one I found made no sense was “remove unsightly public conveniences in Sheep Market and replace ...
