First team player Wayne Wallace produced a stunning Stableford round to take the top prize on Captain’s Day at Spalding Golf Club.
Peter Bridge’s competition was played in glorious sunshine, with over 180 men and 15 ladies plotting their way round the Surfleet course.
The coveted captain’s prize was won by Wallace (5 handicap) with a superb 45 points – which equated to a four-under-par gross 68 and included five birdies.
Second spot went to talented teenager Calum Walker (8) with 43 points, while Simon Rothwell was awarded third place on countback from Garry Harrison, Mark Mitchell (who had an eagle three on the par five 13th) and Richard Parker. All three scored 41 points.
Other leading scores were: 40pts – Andrew Elms, Alan Roper, Robin Roffe, Oliver Mitchell, Arron Cooke, Dave Inglis.
The ladies’ nine-hole competition was won by Angela Roper with 20 points, from Anne Ellis (19 points) and Jackie Bailey-Scott (17 points).
Meanwhile, the nearest to the pin prize on the ninth hole was won by Gary Palmer.
After the event, the captain thanked his many helpers at the prize giving ceremony for making it a day to remember for him, his family and friends.
Some 20 pairs entered the Gooch Cup competition, played in a mixed pairs Stableford format, with Linda Double and David Bark coming out on top with a superb 43 points.
In second place, on countback, were Maureen and Robert Norman.
They just edged Sue and John Matthews into third place after both pairs closed on 42 points.
Other leading scores were: 41pts – Theresa Starbuck and Roy Blake; 39pts – Jackie Bailey-Scott and Trevor Laud.
After losing earlier in the season at Belton Park, Spalding’s third team gained their revenge with a convincing 5-1 home win against their counterparts from Grantham.
Winning pairs for Spalding were Mike Murphy and Stuart Parker (2&1), Monty Brittain and Dave Fitter (3&1), Andy Cunnington and Keith Moore (2&1), Peter Jullian and Peter Williams (4&3), while the best performance came from John Camm and Rob Sampson, (5&4).
Wayne Wallace and Mal Wray were selected to play for the county senior team against Warwickshire, which was played at Sleaford Golf Club.
Both players won their morning and afternoon games, helping Lincolnshire to a convincing 13-5 win.
Monty Brittain came out on top of the 64 entries in the 9 hole midweek Stableford competition.
He scored 31 points to finish ahead of Doug Garfoot and Cameron Roy, who both scored 29 points.
