Walking netball wins award

Fancy trying something a bit different? Walking netball could be the perfect sport for you.

Spalding Sapphires walking netball group meets on Fridays from 1.30pm to 3pm at the Castle Sports Complex, Spalding.
The group has been going for four years and is a mixed group of about 20 people,
Walking netball is essentially the same game played at school, the main differences are that you are not allowed to run or jump.
This makes it suitable for any fitness level or ability.
You don’t have to have played netball before.
The group is part of Lincolnshire walking netball run by England Netball which recently won a county award for being part of a larger project to get walking netball back up and running post COVID.
Louise Williams, who is the group host and a personal trainer at the Castle Sports Complex, said: “Walking netball was thriving pre-COVID but many women were very nervous to come back.
“Long term health conditions, reduced activity, anxiety, social exclusion had made it very hard for many ladies to have the confidence to leave their homes, let alone re-join an activity and mix with others whilst COVID was still present.
“The Tackling Inequalities Funded Walking Back project created a safe environment to support over 200 ladies back to physical activity.”
