Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Tom takes top spot at Captain’s Day

Tom Carnihan took top spot as 140 players contested Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Captains Day competition.

The men’s event was an extremely hard-fought competition, with three golfers coming in with a score of 38 points.

Carnihan was declared the winner on countback, ahead of Malcolm Stead in second and Gino Ciuffini in third place.

Terry Pease bagged 37 points and took fourth, just a point off the pace.

The ladies’ winner was Maria Taylor-Vassall on a fine 37 points, giving her a healthy margin over Nicola Stead (32pts) in second spot. Meanwhile, the visitors’ winner was A Morris on 37 points,

with Steve Hart (33pts) second.

Other prizes: Nearest pin (4th hole) – Mark Gostic; 8th hole – Ady Rowell; 11th hole – Mark Whittaker; 16th hole – Duncan Connabeer, 18th hole (in two) – Rod Drew. Longest drive – James Cundy.

Tydd skipper and organiser Neil John said: “I’d like to thank all who took part in what turned out to be a great competition. Thanks also to the Tydd staff, who put on a great barbecue after the

event.

“Thanks also to my helpers, the greens staff and all others who helped to make a great day.

“All money raised on the day will go into the selected charity pot.”
