The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Week 21 of the Spalding and District Table Tennis League season served up another round of league fixtures, with six matches completed on the night.
At the top of Division One, the margins remained unchanged as both leaders Moulton SE and chasers South Holland took 5-0 victories.
The former faced a weakened Underdogs, winning all their points in straight ends.
Holland faced Aches and Pains with not only the same result but also taken in the same manner.
Jokers are still suffering player problems, but Guntars Briedes is doing his best – taking another two against Mine’s a Pint.
This leaves them seven and four points adrift of the top.
However, they potentially have another 16 points from unfinished matches compared with five and three, some of which are between the rivals.
Further down the table Bladerunners took a 4-0 lead against Nets n Edges for the loss of just one end, including winning one end in a whitewash.
They also met Outsiders in a curtailed match, though that score is not to hand.
In a rearranged match JDM completed the trio of fives on the night defeating Mine’s a Pint at the expense of a single end.
In Division Two, Pottermus Clarets met chasers 200up and grabbed a 4-1 result – extending their lead at the top to ten points.
It was not so straightforward as two games went to the fifth before going in Clarets’ favour.
Behind them, Hurricane Brothers dropped a surprise point to Castle Sports in their, as yet, unfinished match from January.
Castle also secured a 3-2 win against the juniors of MatDuf.
Ping Wang and Tony Dorey won a singles each and the doubles for their points.
However, Finlay Bembridge had a fighting two points, including winning three deuces from four ends in his first game.
Following that, team mate Tommy Maguire only went down in five in another game with three deuces.
In a delayed Marylands round one match, Outsiders took a winning lead against Underdogs to progress to meet the winners of Pottermus Clarets and Jokers.
In the semi-final of the same competition, Aches and Pains took a 2-1 lead over Hurricane Brothers.
However, of the seven games played, four came down to the final two points so any result is still possible.
- The league is looking for anyone who could step in for the final few weeks to cover for a player shortage.
