Successful launch for new Youth Shed project

A first-of-its-kind youth shed, offering youngsters the chance to learn new skills, has been launched in Long Sutton.

The shed, on St James Road, is a place for girls and boys, aged between 11 and 15, to learn real life skills.
At the launch, Jack Tyrrell, David Wilkinson and Ivan Thompson showed groups of families around the newly-built shed which will offer skills including bricklaying, carpentry, mechanics, decorating and other trades.
This initiative will guide young people into a profession they may want to take up at college.
Coun Tyrrell said: “It was a fantastic day. I felt we may be disappointed in the turnout, I need not have worried.
“The enthusiasm was amazing. Over 25 young people came and signed up to take part in the coming weeks.
“The families who attended were all impressed and were certainly encouraging their children to sign up to learn new life skills and make new friends along the way.
“The girls that turned up also joined and some were very interested in learning mechanics.
“This was good to see as I wanted it to be a mixed group, learning new skills which are needed in all households.”
Boston College are giving advice and helping the young people with a training programme that the students will follow.
If you would like to get involved with this new initiative and you are aged between 11-15 years old, call Coun Tyrrell on 07500 486464 to find out more.
