Spalding Lightning through to semi-final

On Sunday, Spalding Lightning continued their quest for a third national mixed top club title with a quarter final win against Hornsea.
Although the match result was 16-0, both singles could have gone either way as Chelsea Spencer held her nerve to draw shot with her last bowl to win 21-20 and Stephen Harris finished the stronger to win 21-18.
The pairs, triples and fours were all in Lightning’s favour before Hornsea acknowledged defeat with a few ends left to play.
Lightning will play Swale in the semi final.

On Saturday, Spalding Lightning’s Denny Cup title defence came to an end against Hartlepool which went down to the wire.
Hartlepool started the better of the two teams but by the half way stage, the lead had changed on numerous occasions.
Lightning opened up a 16-shot lead later in the game before the scores were level with one rink playing their last end.
The last end was killed twice, once by Lightning and once by Hartlepool, but Hartlepool held shot on the last end with Tristan Morton’s last bowl in hand and about three or four inches to get shot.
For a split second, Morton had drawn shot only for it to sit out and Hartlepool won by a single shot, 80-79.
Scores: Dan Mills, Ollie Jeapes, Graham Smith and Mathew Orrey won 19-15; Kevin Ekins, Martin Simpson, Martin Spencer and Jordan Philpott lost 23-24; Stephen Harris, Brian Martin, Ean Morton and Tristan Morton lost 17-18; Lewis Parnell, Simon Lilley, Andy Dunham and Dominic McVittie lost 20-23.
On Saturday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club hosted Boston mixed county league.
The home team were in control before winning the overall aggregate 94-57 and on three of the four rinks, drawing on the other one.
Spalding secured 13 of the available 14 match points.
Top winning rink was skipped by Graham Wright, with Tony Westland, Sue Slayven and Maggie Wheatley, who had an impressive 36-6 rink win.

On Thursday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s Trudy Bates ladies played Skegness.
Spalding were never in front and Skegness won by 13 shots, 58-71.
Spalding did manage two rink wins and picked up four points but the top winning rink was skipped by Maisie Belding, with Freda Lyon, Jan Sinclair and Sandra Hammond, who won 19-14.

On Thursday, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s men’s over 60s county league team played Stamford and although Spalding came out on top on three of the four rinks, they won the overall aggregate, 74-73 and 12-2 on match points.
Top winning rink was skipped by Graham Wright, with Derek Overton, Paul Turner and Robin Roffe, who won 25-19.
