Spalding in with a chance of winning South Lincs Scratch League

An exciting end to this season’s South Lincs Scratch League is in prospect following Spalding Golf Club 1st team’s thumping 6-0 victory over bottom side Tydd St Giles.

With one match left to play, Stoke Rochford lead Spalding by a single point, meaning that if Stoke lose their final match to third-placed Belton Park, and Spalding win their fixture against Sleaford, then Spalding will run out league winners.

> The August medal took place in bright conditions and it was no surprise to see a large number of under par scores on the day.
Mick Yould won the competition with a superb nett 65, which included a birdie and ten pars.
Second place went to Trev Horrocks (11) with 68, followed by Phil Wakefield (11), Andy Grimwood (scr) and Jim West all on 69.
Mick receives a three-shot handicap cut to 18.

> Captains Ray Harrison and Chris Vickers and their mixed team pulled off a good win at Milton, coming away 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 victors.
Winning pairs for Spalding were Dave Tasker and Jean White, Geoff Dewhurst and Ann Tasker, Pete Gooderson and Elaine Harrison and Monty Brittain and Gill Dewhurst, with Phil Thorold and Elizabeth Holbrook halving their match.

> Special thanks from all at the club go to Mal Wray, who has decided to step down from his role as handicap secretary.
Mal has devoted a great deal of time and effort into this “poisoned chalice” of a role, and all at the club are grateful for the tremendous effort put in.
