The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
The talented girls from Spalding Gymnastics Club put in another promising showing at the county individual championships (Level 4/3/2) at Lincoln.
It was the turn of the more experienced gymnasts to show their routines off in surroundings that they have not participated in before – and they didn’t disappoint.
First up was the Level 4 event in the morning, with Spalding’s Rebecca Fones getting the ball rolling with a bronze medal in the 10 and 11 years age group.
In the same age section Maisie Foden just missed out on a medal as she came fourth, with Emmi Bell a few places further back in sixth.
Maddie Freeman, in the 12/13 years age group, finished a fine fourth and ahead of Liberty Foden seventh.
The older age group then saw Dulcie Baker win the bronze medal, with Millie Parsons behind her in tenth.
In the overall Level 4 standings Spalding’s Baker won the trophy for the highest vault score, while team-mates Fones and Foden shared third place on bars and received a bronze medal each.
Next up were the Level 3 gymnasts. In the 11 and 12 years group there was a bronze medal for Lily Thompson after she took third, with Ruby Vertuccio and Lucia Walker finishing equal fifth.
The age 13 and over age group proved very successful for Spalding as Alice Baxter grabbed gold ahead of Hannah Lawrence who took the silver. Miah Farrell also finished sixth.
In the individual disciplines, Vertuccio managed third place on bars, while Hannah Lawrence was first on on vault ahead of Baxter (third).

Thompson also took the top trophy on beam and finished third on floor.
At Level 2, Emma Goodliff carried the flag for Spalding and finished third to secure another bronze.
She finished the day off with third places on vault and bars.
Spalding’s academy at Cradge Bank played host to the East Midlands ‘G for A’ competition recently.
This competition is for teams who have to put together a routine on floor with changing formations to music, including acrobatic skills.
They also had to show their skill on trampette and tumbling.
Teams came from all over the nation to compete including Hinckley, Epping, Milton Keynes, Doncaster, Derbyshire and Chelmsford.
A total of 150 gymnasts took part in what was an exciting competition – and the medals were nicely shared out. Spalding’s senior and junior teams both took gold, while in the micro team competition (five gymnasts) Spalding also won gold and silver in the junior team event and gold in the youth team section.
The next event of this type is in September.
