SOCIAL CYCLING: Spalding Cycling Club's social riders enjoy time out on their latest weekend outing.

Spalding Cycling Club’s Bowser on fire to top group at Velo 99 event

Spalding Cycling Club’s Andy Bowser won his group in the Velo 99 event at Ashby de la Launde last Sunday.

He topped the speed charts in group six (the fastest group on the day) of the 32-mile race, following a successful 0.5 mile uphill sprint to the finish line.

Bowser’s average speed was 24.5 mph as he took 1.20.00hrs to complete the race distance.

That also earned him £10 in prize money.

  • The normal Tuesday night time trial resumed with round six on the Pode Hole course.

Unfortunately, a late afternoon turn for the worse in the weather put a lot of the regulars off competing.

On a course that has more than ten bends to negotiate in the ten miles, some riders were concerned that – with all the rain and possible standing water – there was a potential for coming off.

In the end, only five brave souls took part.

Josh Wallis, as ever, topped the leaderboard with 21.27mins. Adam Ellis (25.43mins) claimed second, with Derek Chamberlain third on 28.34mins.

Guests Matt Ellis (22.32mins, CCIC) and Thomas Wright (24.21mins, Team Onform) completed the leaderboard.

  • The weekend also saw fewer riders competing, meaning a few chose to enjoy a social ride with the club.
