Spalding-based Pippa and Suzanne given coveted Queen’s Nurse honour

Two nurses based in Spalding are among the latest seven Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) staff members to be awarded the honour of Queen’s Nurse.

Case managers Suzanne Wells and Pippa O’Connor received the coveted title along with Rosemary Royce, Mandy Harsley, Valerie Ronis, Debbie Boulton, and Kathy Karruthers who all work at LCHS across the county.

Suzanne, who has worked in the community for the majority of her career since she qualified in 2004, was delighted to be honoured.

She said: “I feel very happy to have received this acknowledgement. It’s lovely to receive recognition for my continual efforts to provide the best care possible for patients in the area.

“Since I was a student nurse I have wanted to work in the community and I am very proud of my achievements during my career so far.”

Pippa said: “Receiving this award is recognition not only for the work I have done, but also for my team.

“I feel that community nursing has given me a greater understanding of patients. I am truly honoured to nurse in my local area and nurse patients within their own home. From the start of my training I realised the importance of patients receiving care as close to home as possible. Every day I try to make a difference.”

Pippa qualified in 1990 from St Thomas’s Hospital, London, and has worked in oncology, haematology and outpatients, before starting in community nursing ten years ago.

Lisa Green, director of nursing and operations at LCHS, said: “We are proud of our ever growing team of Queen’s Nurses at Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, and they are highly recognised for the contributions they make to patient care, and the development of future nurses and leaders.
“We offer our best wishes and congratulations to Suzanne and Pippa for their achievements.”

The community nursing charity The Queen’s Nursing Institute gives the Queen’s Nurse honour to someone who has demonstrated they are committed to high standards of nursing practice and patient-centred care. The Queen’s Nursing Institute brings together community nurses who share common values with a shared title.
