Snooker round-up: Leading promotion candidates in Division Two are all beaten

The top four teams in Spalding and District Snooker League Division Two all lost last week as the promotion picture took a fresh twist.

Leaders Bourne SC C suffered a 4-2 reverse at Gosberton A, with home cuemen Geoff Wand (R7), Jamie Mumby (scr) and Alan Jackson (O7) winning the final three frames to seal the success.

Second-placed Sutton Bridge A lost ground as they were defeated 5-1 at Services E, for who George Neary-Phillips managed a cool 20 break.

Also beaten were third-placed Services B, who went down by the same 5-1 scoreline at Boundary B.

Jim Howe (O49) bagged a handy 24 break for the Deepings side, who are now on the edge of the battle for promotion.

The final leading side to slip up were Holbeach B, who were edged out by club rivals Holbeach F.

Colin Dodd (O21), Dan Mayfield (O28) and Alex Bourne (O14) grabbed the frame wins for the division’s basement side.

Elsewhere in the second tier, a 34 clearance and 22 break from Seb Grimston (O21) wasn’t enough to stop Consti H losing at home to Whittlesey – for who Paul Cook (O7) managed a 24 break.

Also making a solid break was Tony Scully (O35), who notched a 21 as his Donington A side lost 4-2 at Bourne SC B.

Up in Division One, Marcus Hamilton (O35) stole the show with a sensational 69 break in Pyramid D’s 4-2 victory at title-chasing Holbeach C.

The break is the highest from a senior player in the league so far this season.

That result allowed leaders Pyramid A to move nine points clear after they dispatched Holbeach A 4-2.

Norman Vaughan (O14) settled that tussle in the final frame as he beat Zak Rowlett (O7) on the final black.

More big breaks followed in Sutton Bridge B’s 4-2 victory over Consti E.

Bren Bowman (O56) starred with the best of them as he racked up 48 for Consti. But scores of 40, 35 and 31 (clearance) from Stuart Atkin (O35), Sean Swinburn (O49) and Wayne Dent (O42) respectively steered Bridge to glory.

Another player impressing was Neil Reynolds (O49), as he pocketed a 42 to help Donington C beat Consti B 5-1 at home.

Meanwhile, Spencer Dawkins (O56) helped himself to a 34 break to steer Pyramid C to a 5-1 triumph against Boundary A.

Team-mate Jason Green (O63) added scores of 26 and 22 for the Bourne side.

It was close between Bourne SC A and Holbeach D, with the former emerging 4-2 thanks to a final frame success from Carl Gibson (O21).

In Division Three, Consti I have taken over at the summit after edging out friendly foes Consti A 4-2.

Richard Geddes (R14) defeated Pete Law (R14) at the death to seal it.

Top at the start of play, Pyramid B are now one point off the pace after slipping up 4-2 at Gosberton D.

A 24 break from Brad Brinkman (O14) helped them on their way, before Paulo Gensiorsky (scr) sealed the points in the final frame.

Elsewhere, Consti D enjoyed a 4-2 win at Donington D in a battle of the division’s two bottom sides.

Victories from Martin Perkins (O21), Steve Moore (R14) and Tom Digby (scr) got the job done for the Spalding side.

Also 4-2 winners were Consti J, who got the better of Whittlesey B in a tight clash. Stewart Davies (O7) sealed the win for his side by beating Pawel Skutela (R7) 54-40 in the last frame.
