Pinchbeck’s United Sunday’s historic cup bid still alive

Pinchbeck United Sunday remain on-course for a historic victory in the Lincs Sunday Cup after cruising to a 5-1 victory at Messingham Juniors.

Red-hot Josh Ford was again the hero with four goals for Pinchbeck in the Sunday romp, with defender Bobby Patterson chipping in with the other.

It was another impressive performance from Tom Roberts’ side, who are bidding to become the first team from the Spalding Sunday League to win the county competition.

Player/boss Roberts said: “It was very hard-fought, we didn’t play as well as we can.

“It was one of those where I was happy to go there, get the win and come home. Job done.

“At 0-0 Ricky Drury made two very good saves and obviously Mr Ford will grab a few headlines again with his four goals. Jonny Clay was also a rock for us in defence.

“I just want a home draw next, we’d back ourselves to beat anyone at home. Winning this competition remains our number one aim for the season.”

Central defender Patterson fired Pinchbeck ahead with a back-post volley, before Ford bagged his first of game to make it 2-0 at half time.

After that, leading scorer Ford helped himself to a second-half treble to seal United’s place in the third round.

In the same competition, fellow Spalding Sunday League side Spalding Seas End Wanderers suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at Class 6 FC.

Meanwhile, Matthew Eaton continued his impressive goalscoring streak with another hat-trick as Sutton Bridge Sunday defeated Murrow Bell 3-0 in the Spalding Sunday League.

That leaves Bridge third in the standings, some four points off top spot having played a game more.

Another player to notch a treble was Brennans Sports’ Scott Burrell.

He fired three of Brennans’ goals in a thumping 9-1 victory over Mulberry.

The other strikes came from Josh McGuire (2), Tom Cherry, Dave Endersbee, Josh Faulkner and Tyler Wright, with Stephen Mitchell grabbing Mulberry’s consolation.

Meanwhile, Jubilee bagged their second win of the season by seeing off Punchbowl Panthers 2-1.

Leigh Boekestyn and Simon Hall were on target for Paul Rudkin’s side at Monkshouse Playing Field.
