New plans for derelict Donington hotel?

A new revised planning application could be the latest twist in the long-running saga over the derelict Red Cow Hotel in Donington.

Planning permission for Market Homes Limited to turn the former hotel into 31 apartments was approved in December 2016 however the site remains in its dilapidated state sparking concerns from residents about its appearance and the safety of people walking past.

Coun Jane King, a South Holland District Council ward councillor for the area, said that she understands that revised plans for the site will be submitted soon.

“I think they (Market Homes) are going to be putting some more plans in but we don’t know the details yet,” she said. “We’re going to get them down to a parish council meeting.

“I know the district council’s planning officers have got on to them to get it done so work can start.

“There’s been some concerns about parts of the building.

“There are signs hanging off and, as I said in an email to them, I’d really like to see something happen.”
The Voice contacted Hertfordshire-based business Market Homes Limited for a comment but they had not responded at the time of going to press.

Local resident Eddie Finch, said of the site: “It has now been like this for 15 years.

“Nothing has happened and it just looks worse than ever.

“There’s glass falling out of windows on the High Street pavement and it’s used for fly-tipping.

“If this was building was in the main High Street in Spalding or Lincoln it would not be left to look like this and would at least be made safe to walk past.”
