South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club collected 16 more medals at the second weekend of the Lincolnshire County Championships at Grantham.
A team of 18 members from the Spalding-based club were in action competing in the 400m freestyle and the 400m IM events, with impressive results.
Daisy Rummery got proceedings off to a strong start as she powered her way through the 400m freestyle to capture bronze in the girls’ 16 years and over age group – and she also took bronze in the ladies’ senior championship in this event.
Rummery held a strong pace throughout the race and touched the wall in a season’s best time of 4.34.92mins.
Matteo Monaco broke the five-minute barrier for the first time in the 400m freestyle, racing against boys significantly older than himself in the 13 years category.
However, his personal best (PB) time was good enough for the gold medal.
He also collected silver in the boys’ junior championship, before clocking a PB in the 400m IM race for bronze.
Oscar Goldsmith also took on both the 400m freestyle and the 400m IM – and was rewarded with two gold medals in the boys’ 14 years age group.
He touched home in a new and club record of 4.25.99mins to capture his first gold medal in the freestyle, before repeating the trick in the individual medley with another double record breaking time of 5.05.20mins.
Goldsmith went on to win the boys’ junior championship title in both of those events.
There was another South Lincs clean sweep in the boys’ 15 years age group of the 400m freestyle.
Alfie Bisby led the charge as he battled it out with team mate Alfie Robinson in their heat.
Both boys pushed each other along at a great pace and whilst Robinson got the touch at the wall it was
Bisby who took the gold medal in his age group in a new PB of 4.22.05mins.
Alex Sadler took the silver medal with a PB time of 4.26.68mins and Oliver Sorrell collected the bronze medal, also in a new PB of 4.35.87mins.
Bisby made it a double gold as he went on to top the podium in the 400m IM in his age group in a big new personal best time of 4.57.74mins.
Once again he was followed home by Sadler who collected his second silver (5.07.80mins, PB).
There was also double gold for Rico Bringeman as he stormed to victory in both the 400m freestyle and the 400m IM in the 16 years group.
He was clearly a class apart and touched home in 4.10.87mins.
In the 400m IM, Bringeman established an early lead that was never to be contested before he finished in 4.36.81mins.
The talented teen also won the men’s senior championship title in both events.
In the 400m IM, Bringeman was followed home by Luke Blanchard – who put together an excellent race.
His race came down to a finger-tip finish which saw Blanchard take the silver medal just 0.01 secs ahead of his rival in a PB of 4.48.42mins.
The girls also added to the South Lincs medal haul.
Daniela Bringeman secured a bronze medal in the girls’ 15 years age group 400m IM.
She swam with real determination to set a new PB time of 5.37.97mins to make it a podium finish.
Ellisha Cookson was defending her title in the 400m IM, but carrying an injury it was always going to be a challenge.
She swam an outstanding butterfly section of the race and produced a strong backstroke section for her fastest ever front end speed to the race.
Despite battling hard through the breaststroke, Cookson wasn’t able to secure enough of a lead to hold on to the gold medal as she was passed by her rival in the freestyle section.
Still, she touched home in her second fastest time of 5.00.14mins to take silver in both the girls’ 16 years and over age group and ladies’ senior championship.
Meanwhile, Frank Lamb was finally in action in his first event of championships.
He swam the 400m IM in fine style to take the gold medal in the boys’ 13 years age group.
A fast opening section in the butterfly gave Frank an early lead as he transitioned into the backstroke where he swam strongly to hold this lead.
Lamb continued his fine form all the way to the end, setting a new PB time of 5.26.78mins – and also collected the bronze medal in the boys’ junior championship to add to his age group gold.
