Many tributes made to ‘one in a million’ Alexandra (21) after car tragedy in Gedney

Scores of tributes have been made to 21-year-old Alexandra Hills, who died in a road accident at Gedney on Monday.

She was driving a blue Ford Ka which left the road and went into a drain.
Police said the incident in Kingsgate, which runs between Gedney and Gedney Dyke, happened at 8.30am. A rescue effort involving several passers-by was made but Alexandra (pictured) was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement issued via Lincolnshire Police on Tuesday, her family said: “Our daughter was tragically taken from us too soon. She was one in a million.
“We wish to express our thanks to those that helped.”

A former pupil of The Peele Community College in Long Sutton, Alexandra was a student at Lincoln’s Bishop Grosseteste University, and worked at Lincolnshire Co-op’s Sutton Bridge Food Store before transferring to Bracebridge Heath Food Store while studying at Lincoln.

Lincolnshire Co-op’s head of people and performance Heather Lee said: “Alex was a highly-valued member of our team and her colleagues and customers will miss her very much. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.”

Prof Jayne Mitchell, deputy vice chancellor at Bishop Grosseteste University, said: “It was with great sadness we learned the news that Alexandra Hills, who was studying at BGU, passed away in a road accident on Monday 31st October.

“We are offering support to members of the university community who have been affected by this tragic event.

“Our thoughts are with Alexandra’s family at this very difficult time.”

Many other people who knew her posted on Facebook.
One said: “What a lovely girl she was at school – happy and always smiling.”
Another said: “A beautiful girl inside and out. A ray of sunshine.”
Another added: “Was such a lovely and caring girl. Always happy and smiley.”

The weather condition at the time of the incident was misty but it is not yet known if this was a contributory factor.
Police are appealing for witnesses to call 101, quoting 84 of October 31.
