LETTER: Thanks for invites to charity events

On October 9 my wife, Christine, and I were invited to a charity race night by Mayor Colin Manning at King’s Lynn Town Hall in aid of the mayor’s charity “Bridge for Heroes”.

The Bridge for Heroes charity was established in September 2010 by Mike and Helen Taylor with the aim of delivering direct and immediate support to the HM Armed Forces community, veterans and their families.

Since its opening in June 2011, The General Dannatt Contact Centre in King’s Lynn has provided support through respite breaks, compensation claims, pensions’ advice, veteran advice and guidance, housing advice, service records and medal applications, and military family research.

The event went very well and I believe they raised in the order of £700.

Well done to everyone concerned and may I take this opportunity of thanking the Mayor and the good people of King’s Lynn for their invite. We had a lovely time.

On October 16 we were both invited to a civic reception by Mayor and Mayoress Fox at Downham Market Town Hall in aid of the mayor’s charities.

This was the first time we had been invited to Downham Market and the first time we had met Mayor and Mayoress Fox.

On arrival we were amazed to see how many mayors and chairmen were attending the event.

There were a lot of mayors and chairmen we had previously had the pleasure of meeting at other civic events but there were a great deal we had never met before.

As you can imagine most of the evening was spent introducing South Holland to councils either south of Cambridge and even in Northamptonshire.

It was a pleasure meeting a lot of new faces and made for a very busy evening and the time passed very quickly.

May I take this opportunity of thanking the Mayor and Mayoress and the good people of Downham Market for their kindness and generosity shown to my wife and I. I hope the mayor raised lots of money for his chosen charities.

Rodney Grocock
Vice-chairman, South Holland District Council
