Hip, hip hooray it’s the 14th of May, Eurovision Song Contest night array.
The night of many coloured flags from across Europe that will be seen. From Romania to Iceland, to Cyprus and our neighbours in the west, Ireland.
Yes, yes – Mr Graham Norton will say: “Look at all the colours.” He will make a comment on this and remark on that, he will be laughing many times. It’s a night lots of folk enjoy – and why not.
When the show starts, the cameras pan round to reveal the flags being raised by the audience. I see the Finnish flag, the Italian flag as well, Germany’s flag too, then the Polish flag as well.
The rainbow flag is flying high, you know all the colours are there. You will not miss the blue background flag with yellow stars on, this will be seen many times in this event. That being the flag of the European Union.
Quick, quick, you may miss it…did you see it? The Union Jack? Please don’t bother to look for the flag of St George, the patron saint of England.
The BBC is a member of the European broadcasting union. Eurovision comes under the eye/umbrella of the European Union.
The two-piece suits (unelected people) at Eurovision broadcasting union have banned some flags. They have banned Isis/Daesh flags, that’s correct. Well they have banned – yes – the flag of St George, the one the English fans use.
Did they ban any regional flags from France or Germany?
Eurovision broadcasting union have banned the regional flags of Great Britain/United Kingdom, under the banner of the United Nations? What next will it be banning – Britain’s flags at ice skating, tennis, horse events, European football/rugby?
Eurovision Song Contest is just the start.
