Last-gasp piledriver clinches title for Posh Old Boys

A heart-stopping final night of the season in the inaugural Spalding 6-a-side League ended with the final kick of the last game deciding the title in Division Two.

There was no shortage of drama in the top tier too, as the relegation battle came down to the wire with a final-game showdown sealing the fate of Simple FC.

The first game in Division One kicked off with Baltic United easing past Ultra D 3-0. Keeper Andris Bundulis was named MOTM for a Baltic side that will fancy their chances of winning the title going into the new season.

Balotellitubbies, mainly made up of guest players from Division Two, then went down 1-0 to champions Brennans Sports. Sean Jeynes notched up another MOTM award for a Brennans side that only shipped five goals in 14 games.

The third game of the night saw Univeg Team place EPH Allstars in relegation danger as they ran out 1-0 winners.

Jamie Stonebridge put in a MOTM performance in his final appearance for the Univeg lads.

The final game of the night saw Simple FC relegated to the second tier of the league as they lost 4-0 to Polishborough. David Kantac MOTM in this game for runners-up Borough.

The second tier got under way with Old Boy Coaches – knowing they needed to win to push Posh Old Boys all the way – follow the script, as they comfortably turned over Sarah’s Boys 4-1. Charles Lacey was MOTM for the title hopefuls.

Match two saw Mail Carters carry on their good form with an impressive 0-0 draw against third-placed Class On Grass.

Mail Carters’ keeper David Nixon was the star man with another MOTM.

The third game of the night was a mid-table clash between Le Saux Solid Crew and Luis Suarez Ate My Hamster. It finished 2-1 to Le Saux – a result which secures them fourth.

Harry Ledger was MOTM in a tight tussle.

Finally, Posh Old Boys took on Dynamo Kiev in a must-win game. Amazingly, Kiev looked set to poop the party as they raced 3-0 up.

Posh pulled two goals back before the break and then made it 3-3, before a long-range missile from the final kick of the game sealed a 4-3 win for the Old Boys and dramatically clinched them the title.

James Halesworth got the MOTM in a breathtaking game that was a really good advert for the league.
