John’s ace inspires fine success for Spalding Golf Club’s seniors

Vice captain John Camm sunk an impressive hole-in-one as Spalding Seniors stormed to a 6-2 success over Seacroft.

Camm aced the par three sixth hole to help ensure he and playing partner John Tilling won 3up at the Surfleet course.

That result was followed by a 5-3 loss at Woodhall Spa, with only Camm and Graham Chamberlain and Stuart Fitzjohn and Albert Jacobs victorious.

  • Result: Woodhall Spa 5 Spalding 3 (John Camm & Graham Chamberlain won 2&1, Stuart Fitzjohn & Albert Jacobs 3&2, John Beba & Jim Robertson halved; Bernard Herbert & Peter Sanders halved, Tony Holbrook & Dave Tasker lost 2&1, Dennis Farnsworth & John Stanford lost 3&2, Mike Gould & Phil Thorold 7&6, Steve Leggett & Neil Knighton 3&2).

Ladies’ section: Elaine Harrison and Jenny Pipe took the spoils at Spalding Golf Club’s Hardy Cup competition in the ladies’ section.

The pairs competition attracted 22 teams and was a Stableford, played off 3/4 handicap at the Surfleet course.

Harrison and Pipe sealed the win on 39 points, with Theresa Starbuck and Sue Dewar second on 38 points.

Third, on count back, were Jean White and Elizabeth Holbrook with 35 points.

  • Some 23 members from Spalding’s ladies section competed for the Millennium Cup.

The winner was Debra Ward with a net 70, resulting in a handicap cut of two shots. Paula Brown (76) was second on count back from Anita Cross.

  • Result: Spalding ladies’ A 2 Belton Woods 2 (Pat West & Di Platt lost 4&3, Mathilde Kedzlie & Elizabeth Holbrook won 2&1, Angela Roper & Lesley Williams lost 3&2, Ruth Atkins & Anita Cross won 1 up).
