U-TURN: Gareth Jellyman

Gareth Jellyman will not be pulling on the blue of Spalding United this season after having a change of heart over his move to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

The former Peterborough United, Mansfield and Boston Town left back – who was acting as player/coach – has left the Tulips by mutual consent.

Jellyman only joined the club from Corby Town in May and didn’t make a single appearance for the UCL Premier Division champions.

He is actually the third player to perform a U-turn on agreements to join Pat Rayment’s side, following similar moves from ex-Boston United skipper Ian Ross and keeper Nick Conroy.

In a brief statement, Spalding boss Pat Rayment said: “Due to personal circumstances, Gareth Jellyman will no longer be joining us.

“That’s all we’ll be saying on the matter. I’m hoping to announce a deal for a new left back soon.”

There is positive transfer news for Tulips fans though, as they completed a deal for former Worksop Town winger Ash Burberry on Monday.

The 24-year-old, who worked with Tulips’ number two Marcus Ebdon at Alfreton, should feature against King’s Lynn Town on Saturday (home, 3pm).

Rayment added: “Ash has a good relationship with Marcus and the move makes sense for both of us.

“We now have a lot of options going forward and everybody will have to play for their shirt.

“We’re working as close as we can to being a proper club and nobody is guaranteed a start.

“People will scoff at that, but we tried doing it with local lads. We don’t want players here that are looking for an easy ride and Ash fits the bill perfectly.”
