Hovenden House residents back on the road thanks to generous Voice reader’s £50,000 donation

Hovenden House has a brand new minibus, thanks to a £50,000 donation by a reader of The Voice.

Residents at the Leonard Cheshire Disability home in Fleet were devastated last February when one of its specially adapted minibuses was stolen from the premises.

The story quickly led to a Voice reader offering the massive donation on the understanding she could remain anonymous.
The 65-plate Mercedes Sprinter was delivered on Monday after work to adapt it for wheelchair users’ needs, including a tail lift and seats that can be removed as necessary.

The home’s volunteer and activities co-ordinator Joe Paduch – himself a wheelchair user – said: “It’s a really fantastic piece of kit.
“Since the previous minibus was stolen, it’s limited what we can do. Luckily we were able to borrow a bus for a while but this new one means we can do whatever we like again.
“The residents are really pleased and we just want to say again an enormous thanks to the donor.”
