Gosberton rip up the form book in Spalding Snooker League

Gosberton A turned the Spalding and District League Division Two table upside down last week as they upset leaders Consti B 4-2.

The relegation-threatened hosts were inspired by frame wins from Peter Waterfall (R14), Lee Watson (O14) and James Waterfall (O14), but stay in the bottom two.Watson also starred with a 23 break against Martin Fear (O7), who managed a 21 break of his own.

Consti, meanwhile, are five points clear at the top – but second-placed Bourne SC A are now in the box seat at the top.

Also in the mix are third-placed Boundary A, who picked up a 4-2 victory at Services B.

Stewart Lilley (R7) settled a close contest by defeating Craig Fitter (O56), who made a 29 break, in the final frame.

The Deepings side are one point behind Bourne and six off the summit.

Fourth-placed Gosberton B missed the chance to put themselves in the title frame as they lost 4-2 at home to struggling Long Sutton D.

In a very tight tussle, Ben Lewis (O7) pipped Sam Craft (R14) on the last black of the final frame to win 57-56 and take the match.

Crowland B were another of the high-fliers to lose, going down 5-1 at home to Pyramid B. James Sharpe (O42) shone for the Bourne side – and managed a 21 break.

Up in Division One, Bren Bowman (O63) produced the performance of the week as he reeled off a super 57 break for Tulips A.

However, he was on the losing side at Boundary B, as Steve Oakes (O21) beat Martin Anderson (O7) on the black to clinch the final frame and a 4-2 victory.

Services A remain in third position after they edged out Donington A 4-2 in one of the best battles in the top flight.

Mike Knight (O14) and John McDowell (O7) made breaks of 22 and 20 respectively for the victorious Spalding side.

Long Sutton B, meanwhile, were in fine form as they dispatched hosts Consti F 5-1.

Carl Parnell (O42) made breaks of 32 and 24, while Steven Godfrey (O21) chipped in with a cool 24 and Wayne Dent (O42) pocketed a handy 22.

Elsewhere, Gosberton D are three points clear at the top of Division Three after beating Long Sutton D 4-2.

Nigel Goodwin (R21) was their match-winner, beating David Lefley (scr) in a close final frame.

Best break at this level came from Mick Walker (O21), who trousered a fine 32 in Boundary C’s 4-2 victory at Services D.

Stuart Davies also made a 21 break as Consti J saw off Consti E 4-2.

  • Long Sutton seized the initiative in the Spalding and District Billiards League title race by beating leaders Donington 5-2 on Monday night.

Sean Swinburn (O20) and Mick Cooper (O40), who made breaks of 36 and 29 respectively, delivered the wins.

There were big breaks elsewhere, as Hugh Pinner (O170) made 49 in Holbeach A’s 5-2 win at Consti A and Mick Johnson (O170) pocketed 62 in Consti B’s 7-0 romp at Pyramid A.

Cue ace Rob Childs (O200) also scored a fine 50 break for Crowland B, but saw his side lose 7-0 against friendly foes Crowland A.

Also 7-0 winners were Holbeach B, who crushed Consti C. Ashley Bunn (R40) made a 20 break in that one.
