Gosberton D keep flawless snooker run going

The Spalding and District Snooker League’s only unbeaten side, Gosberton D, stretched their winning run to eight games in Division Three last week.

Wins from Marcus Pell (O21), Simon Slinger (R7) and Jack Craft (R21) kept them perfect with a 4-2 success over fellow high-fliers Bourne SC B, despite a break of 30 from Pete Hodgson-Kerry (scr).

Amazingly, the league’s sole flawless side are four points behind third tier leaders Whittlesey C, who beat Consti E 4-2.

Third-placed Pyramid E suffered their second defeat of the season as they went down 4-2 at Donington B.

Mick Clark (R7) grabbed the winning point for hosts Donington in the penultimate frame against John Templeman (R21).

Also 4-2 winners were Consti J, who edged an all-club clash with friendly foes Consti A. This one went right down to the wire, with Stu Davies (O28) making a 23 break en route to sealing the match in the final frame.

Up in Division One, Services A continue to go great guns at the top as they bid for a first title since 1981 (the club’s C side did win in 2009, but the A team have gone more than 30 years without lifting the crown).

A 32 break from Pete Mullane (O21) and a 22 clearance from Mike Knight (O14) helped steer the Spalding side to a 5-1 victory at Tulips A and moved them five points clear at the summit.

Donington C are their nearest challengers after they dispatched hosts Long Sutton B 5-1.

The best break on show in the top flight was a cool 45 from Pyramid B maestro Jason Green (O56).

His talented team-mate Alfonso Palumbo (O42) also chipped in with a 31 break, but the Bourne side suffered a 4-2 reverse at Holbeach D.

Ashley Bunn (O7) was the match-winner with a black-ball success over Dave Pearson (O14).

At the wong end of the table, Crowland C are still the only side in the league looking for a first win after going down 5-1 at Services E.

They’ve now lost all seven of their games and are seven points adrift at the foot.

In Division Two, Bourne SC A remain in pole position after seeing off Consti H 5-1.

As ever, the league’s star player Mark Gray (O98) was on-song with a 47 break and a 22 clearance for the table toppers.

Second-placed Consti G matched their result as they dispatched Gosberton A by the same 5-1 scoreline.

A 21 break from John Barnes (scr) was the highlight for the promotion hopefuls.

Best break at this level was a solid 32 from Pyramid D’s James Sharpe (O42). He helped his side see off Gosberton B 4-2, despite a 21 break from Adam Twigg (O7).

Elsewhere, Services B cruised to a 5-1 away victory at Consti I as they picked up only their second success of the campaign. They were aided by black ball wins from Tim Nash (O21), Jeff Collins (R14) and Alan Hansard (scr).
