Former Archbishop of Canterbury visits Long Sutton for Brexit talk

The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Reverend Doctor Rowan Williams popped along to Long Sutton this week as part of a discussion on Brexit.

Dr Williams was one of the speaker at The Implications of Brexit on the Lincolnshire Economy part of the Social Issues in South Lincolnshire talks at St Mary’s Church Hall on Tuesday, March 6.

His talk entitled Human Dignity, Human Worth featured alongside offerings by Lincolnshire Police’s Deputy Crime Commissioner Craig Naylor, Ian Ling of the Campaign for the Protection for Rural England, Canon Alan Robson and Lincolnshire photographer Rose Beddington.

A selection of children from Gedney Drove End and Holbeach St Marks primary schools were also invited to the event and given a special question and answer session with Dr Williams, the former leader of the Church of England.

Imogen Portass-Bowen (10) of Gedney Drove End Primary School said: “I was really excited to meet him and we got to ask his about rural areas and him life.

“It was very interesting and we found out that he’d met the Queen.

“It was very good to learn about him and what it was like being an archbishop.”

  1. It would be nice if The Voice could report what was actually said, not only by Rowan Williams but also other speakers as this event was held during the day, when many people who might have been interested in attending couldn’t.

    I understand from a couple people I know who did attend, that the event was very informative and presented facts that the wider public ought to be made aware of. Our method of leaving was certainly unknown at the time of the referendum, and is uncertain now so the issues discussed would seem to be very pertinent to help us understand where the country is headed.
