The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Neither Long Sutton nor Spalding could stop Bourne from progressing in the Twenty20 Winkworth Cup on Easter Monday.
The three teams were in group two of the competition played out at the Abbey Lawns in Bourne.
First to challenge the home side was Long Sutton who found Sam Evison in brilliant form.
The brother of Kent’s Joey Evison smashed 142 in 54 balls including 12 fours and 12 sixes as his side batted first.
Jonathan Cheer also scored 48 from 39 deliveries as the pair put on 174 for the second wicket, Sutton having had Bourne 12 for 2 early on thanks to Paul Edgeller (2 for 34) who took a wicket with the first ball of the match.
Carl Wilson’s 26 off 12 helped the home side to 225 for 5.
Despite losing opener Edgeller early, James Laud (43 from 34) and Davico Kruger actually had Long Sutton ahead of their opponents in the early stages of the chase.
They couldn’t keep up with the required rate despite Kruger finishing 62 not out from 50 balls.
Sutton closed on 148 for 6, 77 runs behind.
It was then Spalding’s time to face Bourne and they batted first scoring 131 for 7 from their 20 overs.
Several batsmen made decent starts, including opener Ollie Dring hitting three sixes in his 16 ball 33.
Jamie Coles also scored 23, J Lawrence 21 and Barnaby Dring 20 not out.
Evison opened the batting for Bourne this time, scoring 63 from 32 deliveries and backed by Jack Berry put on 61 for the opening wicket.
Evison was bowled by Lawrence (1 for 30) and Berry caught off the bowling of Divyeash Vaseeharan (1 for 24), but Bourne still cruised to an eight wicket win in the 13th over.
With only one side going through from the group to the next round, there was no need for Spalding and Bourne to play each other.
