Champions Brennans Sports get off to a six-y start

The new Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League season got off to a super start under the floodlights at Surfleet’s Glen Park on Monday night.

Division One got under way with reigning champions Brennans Sports going up against last year’s drop-beaters EPH Allstars.

As expected, it was business as usual for the Brennans boys as they ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

The extension of the playing area and the increase in half length allowed Brennan’s to flex their muscles as they pinged the ball about amid almost perfect playing conditions.

EPH will be hoping next week’s fixture against the unfamiliar Notinmymums Forest will be more fruitful.

Daniel Berfogin was man of the match (MOTM) in this game.

The second game of the night saw newly-promoted Posh Old Boys, still buoyed from their last-minute title winner last week, go head-to-head with the unpredictable Ultra D.

The Posh boys made the step-up well and looked in-place on the tougher division with a polished 3-1 win against a downtrodden Ultra outfit.

Will Kirkham picked what he will hope is the first of many MOTM awards for this season.

The next game saw Forest get trounced 7-0 by last season’s runners-up Polishborough.

To be fair to the Forest lads, this was always going to be baptism of fire, with the Poles looking to go one-better than last term.

Simon Howard was given MOTM, which should provide some encouragement to the Forest players.

Two new-teams then went up against each other in a thrilling game as Wet Dream Team drew 1-1 with Pinchbeck United.

Some lovely football was on display as both teams made the most of the wide playing surface.

For Jamie Stonebridge’s Dream Team a tough tie against Polishborough awaits next – but if they manage a second performance like this they will be confident of keeping the Poles at bay. For Pinchbeck United a physical affair with Univeg Team is the billing for next week.

James Tallis got MOTM in this game.

Match five saw newly-promoted Old Boys United go down to a hard-working Baltic United 3-0.

Despite the Old Boys best efforts, they couldn’t match Baltic man-for-man and found themselves on the back foot for much of the game.

Baltic passed beautifully as they looked to exploit any weakness in the Old Boys defence.

Based on this showing, Baltic will be strong contenders for another title push – but Old Boys will be encouraged going forward to next week’s winnable game against Ultra D.

Trev Laud was given MOTM by referee Joe Wareing.

The final game of the division was a thriller, with goals-a-plenty as Univeg Team won 4-3 against You’ve Got No Fans.

Both sides were desperate to win in a topsy-turvy game which really could have finished in either sides’ favour, as they used possession well and threw caution to the wind.

Jiri Spacek was given the nod as MOTM.

The second division got under way with last season’s wooden spoon winners Mail Carters putting on a decent show against Dynamo Kiev.

Dynamo won 1-0, but the match was close, engrossing and pure. Both sides played in the right spirit and put on a decent match to watch from the neutrals perspective.

Dave Gayla got MOTM for Kiev and helped his team to a vital first win.

Match two saw recently relegated Simple FC hitting the ground running as they turned over Le Saux Solid Crew, complete with attractive new kit, 4-1 in a one-sided affair.

Dominic Mason and co will be delighted to have chalked up a first win as they look to bounce straight back into the top division.

Leigh Boekestyn was a worthy MOTM winner.

The evening continued in Division Two with Tekkerslovakia (formerly known as Class On Grass) squaring up to their breakaway team Goaldiggers.

The big reunion didn’t quite live up to expectations, as they played out a 0-0 draw.

Ryan Mills from Goaldiggers was given the MOTM prize.

Balotellitubbies, who finished rock-bottom of Division One last season, then lost 5-1 to a very impressive Evolution outfit.

The new-boys looked slick, focused and have plenty of fire-power – which could possibly make them the early pace-setters. MOTM in this one went to Michal.

The evening continued with BK’s Athletic cruising to a 4-0 win over Borrussia Teeth in a battle of the new teams.

BK’s captain, Dan Dougill, was very impressive as he secured MOTM.

The final game of Division Two was Older Boys Coaches, a second team for Old Boys Coaches, beating Sarah’s Boys 2-0.

Coaches used the full playing area to their advantage with attractive pass-and-move football.

Carl Walker picked up the MOTM prize in the final clash of the night.
