Bourne SC A hold firm as rivals see unbeaten records shattered

Two of the three unbeaten records in Spalding and District Snooker League Division One were smashed on Thursday night – leaving Bourne SC A as the sole pace-setters.

They won 5-1 at Consti F to make it four wins from as many games, while Donington A and Holbeach A were finally beaten at Services A and Long Sutton B respectively.

Ian Clare (O14), Oli Player (O28) and Carl Gibson (O14) all made breaks in the 20s en-route to frame wins to fire the Bourne boys onto 18 points.

Donington were defeated 4-2 at Services, with Jon Bettinson (scr) settling that contest with a 58-31 success over Jim Thompson (O7) in the final frame.

It was also 4-2 in the other big game, as Tom Horspool’s (O21) black-ball success over Mark Hubbard earned Sutton B the narrowest of wins over Holbeach A.

There was also a super 34 clearance from Sutton’s Steve Godfrey (O28) in that clash, while Bobby White (O14) pocketed a 36 break for the beaten visitors.

At the other end of the early standings, both Consti B and Boundary B secured their first victories. Consti were 4-2 winners at Boundary A, thanks largely to black-ball wins from John Christian (scr) adn John Keeton (O14).

Boundary B, meanwhile, won 4-2 at Whittlesey A despite a 27 clearance from Gary Thewliss (R7).

In Division Two, Pyramid B saw their unbeaten start ended by friendly foes Pyramid D. It was pretty comprehensive, with James Sharpe (O42), Pete Grose (R7), Marcus Hamilton (O35) and Pete Jackson (R7) all winners in a 5-1 D team victory.

Gosberton D remain winless after going down 4-2 at Holbeach C, who are riding high. Shane Davies (O14) did make a 21 break in vain for the basement boys.

Elsewhere, Holbeach B earned a fine 5-1 win at Gosberton B to earn their second success, while Services C enjoyed a 4-2 triumph at Crowland C.

Jordan Philpott (R21) settled the latter game in the final frame.

Down in Division Three, the two Services sides continue to go great guns.

Services F lead the way with four wins from four after a 6-0 whitewash win at Consti D. Oliver Turner’s (O21) 22 break was the highlight.

Also unbeaten, Services B beat Consti E 4-2. Paul Doades (R14) settled that one in the penultimate frame.

The other two flawless starts were shattered, though.

Long Sutton C came a cropper 5-1 at Gosberton A to lose for the first time this season, Carl Wand (scr) making a 31 break.

Donington B also slipped up 5-1 at Whittlesey C to suffer their first loss.
