£140,000 upgrade plan for all-weather pitch and floodlights

Plans costing £140,000 are in place to replace an all-weather pitch in Long Sutton and upgrade its floodlights.

Long Sutton Community Sports Association’s playing surface at Peele Leisure Centre has served its many uses for 20 years, but is now in need of replacement.
And the floodlights would benefit from an overhaul, including LED bulbs.

The association has made a series of grant applications with a view to being able to carry out the work this summer.

Chairman Peter Worth said: “The all-weather pitch is very worn out. When we get a lot of heavy rain it brings up a lot of debris which makes it unplayable.
“The lifespan is about 15 years so to get 20 years out of this one shows how well is has been maintained.”

The directors of the association – Peter, his brother Nick Worth, Ian White, Ray Reims and Graham Scorthorne – are the same five who founded it and brought the project to reality.

Long Sutton Hockey Club, which runs many adult and youth teams, is the principle user of the facility, although it is also regularly used by football teams.

Peter Worth said: “All being well, we should start hearing about our grant applications in the next two to three months.”
