Upbeat boss Lewis Thorogood insists that nobody at Pinchbeck United is panicking despite seeing the club drop into the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North drop zone on Saturday.
Pinchbeck’s 4-0 loss at home to Long Eaton United on Saturday, coupled with Selston’s 3-2 win over Holbeach United, leaves them two points from safety with nine games left, having played four games more than their chief rivals.
However, Thorogood feels that the Knights still have their destiny in their own hands and says all at the club are desperate to stay up ahead of Saturday’s derby at fifth-placed Boston Town (3pm).
“We can’t afford to panic,” said the Pinchbeck boss. “Let’s be honest, the weekend results were hardly surprising.
“We’ve got nine games now and have got the top four sides out of the way, whereas Selston have them all to play still.
“From my point of view, if we start to panic about the threat of relegation there’s a good chance things can fall apart.
“The boys are all determined to get the club out of this predicament and ensure we stay in this division.
“Boston will be a difficult game, they are a local rival and won’t want to lose to us.
“They suffered a surprising 4-0 home loss to Heanor last weekend, so I’d guess they will either be hungry to put that right against us or be low on confidence.”
Pinchbeck should be able to welcome back keeper Alex Smith to the fold after he missed the Long Eaton defeat last weekend.
