Welcome 7-0 billiards victory for struggling Holbeach B

Having ended 2014 as the Spalding and District Billiards League’s basement boys, Holbeach B kicked off the new year with a maximum win over Pyramid B.

Denis Hix (R70), Dan Coleman (R100) and Ashley Bunn (R40) all earned big individual wins in Bourne to give Holbeach’s season the shot in the arm it badly needed.

Darrell Read (R40) did make a 20 break for Pyramid, but it mattered little for the hosts.

The tightest game of the week was between two Consti sides, as the club’s C team edged out the B squad 4-3. This clash boasted the biggest break of the week too, as ace potter Mick Johnson sunk a stunning 89. The O170 handicapper also pocketed breaks of 53 and 32 en route to winning the first frame for the B side.

However, Jason Rose (R50) and Chris English (R90) hit back for the C team with narrow frame victories to seal the win.

A superior aggregate score of 581-567 did, however, give the B boys an extra point.

Elsewhere, Crowland B picked up a 5-2 win over two-man Holbeach C.

Rob Childs (O200), who made breaks of 42, 41 and 38, won the opener for Crowland, only for Duncan Croker (R90) to hit back for Holbeach. He made a 25 break in that victory.

With Holbeach unable to put a player forward to contest the third frame, Allan Sharman (R70) stood unopposed to pick up the win by forfeit.

Leaders Donington started their year as they ended the last one – on winning form. They dispatched Consti D 5-2 thanks to frame wins from Sid Shaw (O10) and Jim Thompson (R30).

Alan Hansard (R70) replied for Consti, but it wasn’t enough for the away side in a clash that saw both Shaw and Stewart Davies (R20) make 28 breaks.

  • Two rearranged games were played in the Spalding and District Snooker League over the festive period.

In Division Three, Consti D edged out Consti A 4-2 thanks to a final frame success from Dave Ingle (R21).

The other clash saw Services E beat Holbeach B 3-2 in the KO Cup, with Vince Fitter (O14) making a 30 break and a 25 clearance.
