Sensational 97 billiards break from Crowland’s Rob

Rob Childs lit up the Spalding and District Billiards League once again on Monday as he made an amazing 97 break for his Crowland B side.

The ace potter, who plays off a maximum O200 handicap, also made scores of 51 and 45 in his frame win over Long Sutton’s Sean Swinburn (O20).

Sadly for Childs, he was the only winner for his side, with Mick Cooper (O40) and John Dawson (R30) securing a 5-2 success for title-chasing Sutton.

The 97 break is one of the top scores this season, with Mick Johnson’s 121 the best.

Elsewhere, table-topping Donington picked up a 5-2 home triumph over Consti B to keep themselves five points clear, having played a game more.

Norman Gookey (R80), who made a 21 break, and Jim Thompson (R30), who made a 44 break, were their frame-winners this week.

Pyramid A enjoyed a maximum 7-0 victory over Gosberton to keep themselves on the edge of the title picture.

John Clapton (R90), Eric Wyer (R50) and John Twell (R60) all picked up hard-fought wins for the Bourne side, with Clapton top-scoring on a 26 break.

Also picking up a whitewash win were Consti A, who breezed past friendly foes Consti C 7-0 (600-473).

Robert Adams (R40) led the charge with a 26 break for the A side, with Peter Tingle (R90) and Lindsay Porter (R40) rounding off the rout.

Hugh Pinner was on typically fine form for Holbeach A, but saw his side go down 5-2 at home to Pyramid B. The veteran O170 handicapper trousered scores of 54 (unfinished) and 43, but Maurice Phillipson (R70) and Darrell Read (R40) ensured that the Bourne side won.

The other game on Monday night saw Crowland A defeat Holbeach B 5-2, with Terry Everitt (R20) making a 24 break.
