Pinchbeck United finally hitting top form as Harrox stay top after comeback

Player/boss Ian Dunn feels his Pinchbeck United side have rediscovered their groove after Saturday’s impressive 3-1 ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division victory at ICA Sports.

After a shaky start to the campaign, the pre-season title favourites have now won four games on the spin – and Dunn believes they are now mimicking the fine form they showed at the end of last season.

The job was essentially done inside 25 minutes at South Bretton Playing Fields on Saturday, with Ollie Maltby (2) and Liam Ogden on target.

Maltby’s first was a volley from 18 yards, with the second a smashing finish following a smart turn.

Ogden’s goal was a back-post finish from a long throw and made it 3-0 at half time.

Dunn, who made his return from a lengthy injury late on, was disappointed by the soft red card awarded to Ben Harris and a debtable second-half penalty dispatched by Simon Farrow, but was still left satisfied.

He said: “We were missing a few, but I thought we showed signs of the form we managed at the end of last season.

“It’s been a tough start, but we’ve sorted things out and the improvement all stems from hard work.

“I’m not quite sure what went wrong, but we’ve made changes – and will bring a few more in. Fortunately, we’re not too far off the pace and have a chance to make up some points on a few sides this weekend.”

  • Moulton Harrox produced an impressive second-half comeback on Saturday to keep themselves top of the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division table.

Nigel Steadman’s side trailed 1-0 at half time against visitors Deeping Rangers Reserves at Broad Lane, but recovered to clinch a 2-1 triumph.

An own goal from skipper Billy King, initially claimed by Paul Kirk, put Deeping ahead and in with a chance of producing a major upset.

But leading scorers Marcus Parry and Joe Townsend, the latter coming off the bench, struck to make it seven wins from nine matches for table-topping Moulton.

Steadman’s charges are three points clear of the pack, but face a tough test of their credentials when fifth-placed Peterborough Sports Reserves arrive at Broad Lane this Saturday (2pm).

Harrox: Kenealy, Groves, Maddison, Coddington, Watkin, King, Oldham, Cawthorne, Allen, Sandall, Parry. Sub used: Townsend. Not used: Barnett, N Steadman.
