Moulton Harrox earned an impressive 3-1 win at Sawtry on the final Saturday of the regular ChromaSport Peterborough League season to finish a fine third in the Premier Division.
Needing a win to leapfrog Peterborough ICA Sports in the final standings, goals from Joe Townsend, Ryan Wheeler and Macauley Grimwood got the job done for Harrox.
A 19th league win of the campaign sees Paul Kent and Paul Crowson’s side finish four points and three places better off than last season.
Also much-improved on last year’s showing are Pinchbeck United – despite going down 4-3 to Peterborough Sports Reserves in their last game of the season.
A double from Ollie Maltby and Adam Abell’s effort weren’t enough for Ian Dunn’s charges at Knight Street, but they finish a solid eighth.
Having picked up more than double the amount of points they managed last term, Dunn can be satisfied with the progress made in the first year of his second stint with Pinchbeck.
It hasn’t been such a great campaign for Holbeach United Reserves, though. Omar Joof’s side concluded their fixtures with a 0-0 draw against Stilton United at Carter’s Park – and they are relegated back to Division One after finishing bottom.
Crowland Town finish just outside of the bottom two by virtue of Leverington Sports’ 6-0 loss at Pinchbeck last week – a game that saw Tom Gosling score four times.
In Division One, Moulton Harrox Reserves signed off with an exciting 6-4 success over Oundle Town at Broad Lane. Ben Allen, Wayne Congreve, Declan Earth, Ben Wiggins, Daniel Dougill and
Chris Hall all bagged to make it six different scorers for a Moulton side that finish a fine ninth after winning six of their last seven league games.
In Division Two, already-promoted Spalding United Reserves missed out on promotion despite a 4-3 win over Netherton A.
Crowland Town Reserves, meanwhile, sealed their position in the play-offs with a 3-3 draw against Thorney Reserves last Wednesday night. David Howe, Simon Acton and Joe Fletcher got the goals in the Snowden Field thriller.
Crowland’s second string will now visit third-placed Wittering on Saturday (1pm), with the winners facing either Ketton Reserves or Stamford Belvedere in the final.
Down another level to Division Three and Spalding Town – another side already promoted – lost 7-1 at Kings Cliffe Reserves on Thursday night. Their consolation came from Marcus Parry, with Jamie Andrew (4) doing most of the damage for the hosts.
Chris Page’s Town finish second and will play Division Two football next year.
Tydd St Mary also wrapped their fixtures up with a defeat, as Ramsey Town prevailed 3-0 at Memorial Park.
The Saints end up in seventh place – a solid showing after last year’s promotion.
Elsewhere, Sutton Bridge United were hit for nine by visitors Peterborough ICA Sports B as they closed the campaign in 12th position.
Kurt Scott fired their consolation in a 9-1 drubbing.
