Millie’s Coronation Cup win comes with a handicap cut

Millie Thorold topped a field of 37 players to win the Coronation Cup in Spalding Golf Club ladies’ section.

The Stableford competition was held at Surfleet last Wednesday and Thorold’s winning return was 39 points.

As a result, she received a handicap reduction of 1 point.

Runner-up was Dianne Platt with 38 points and third was Maureen Orwell with 35.

  • Eight ladies entered for the Sunday medal on June 15. The winner was Matilde Kedzlie with a net 72.

Second was Jean White (73) and third Chris Leggett (75).

  • Olive Gooderson and Jean Harvey emerged winners of the Hardy Cup at the Surfleet course on June 11.

They beat 13 other pairs to take the trophy.

The Stableford competition was played as 3/4 handicap Gooderson and Harvey’s won with 40 points.

Runners-up were Lesley Williams and Hannah Thorold with 38 points and Elaine Maclemen and Dianne Platt came third with 37.

  • Spalding beat Sleaford ladies 3-1 in a friendly at Surfleet.

Winning pairs for Spalding were Jenny Wilson and Angela Roper 5&4, Millie Thorold and Theresa Starbuck 1up and Anne Ellis and Chris Leggett 2 up.
Chris Vickers and Avril Norton were beaten 2&1.
