The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
The two divisional leaders in The Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League endured differing fortunes on Monday night.
While it was business as usual for Division One table-toppers Polishborough with an 8-1 win, Division Two pace-setters Simple FC were handed a first loss of the campaign by ever-improving The TBME at Surfleet’s Glen Park.
The top tier kicked off with another indifferent result for Brennan’s Sports, who picked up a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Notinmymums Forest. The game was tense, edgy and exciting as both teams had spells of dominance.
Forest’s Joel Newton was given the nod as man of the match (MOTM) in a game that was a good advert for the league.
Univeg Team, still without captain Jiri Spacek, then managed a resounding 7-3 success against struggling Posh Old Boys. Dawid Iwaniec picked up another MOTM for Univeg as the playmaker running the game.
The next match saw Pinchbeck United and Old Boy Coaches play out an engrossing 1-1 draw as Trevor Laud claimed MOTM.
However, it became apparent after the game that Old Boy Coaches had fielded an illegible player in Ashley Coddington, who had featured for Forest earlier in the night.
As a result, this scoreline stands – but the reverse fixture between the two sides, on the May 4, will be worth double points, with the fixture then becoming irrelevant, unless Coaches win.
Leaders Polishborough then maintained their unbeaten start – and are now the only team across the two divisions to do so.
This time they hammered the previously in-form Pro Ballers 8-1, with Krzysiek Goldyn picking up his second MOTM award in a row.
Then came another one-sided clash, as You’ve Got No Fans beat an injury-ravaged Wet Dream Team 5-2 to consign them to their fourth straight defeat.
Guy Mantle was given MOTM for this game.
Baltic United concluded the Division One games when they managed a comfortable 3-0 win over rock-bottom EPH Allstars. This latest victory keeps them second but they have now opened up a massive four-point gap over the chasing pack.
Despite the result, EPH’s Jamie Wright produced a MOTM performance.
The first game in Division Two saw Dynamo Kiev’s atrocious run of form continue. They suffered their seventh straight defeat in a 4-1 loss to high-flying BK’s Athletic.
Luke Russon picking up another MOTM gong for the BK’s boys.
Balotellitubbies recorded their biggest ever win as they ran out 8-4 winners against rock-bottom Ultra D in the highest scoring of the night.
Michael Cope picked up MOTM in that one.
Sarah’s Boys then compounded Mail Carters’ poor form as they strolled to a 4-0 win. Despite conceding four goals, Carters keeper Wilf Barkum impressed with another stand-out performance as MOTM.
Then came the shock of the night, as Simple FC finally lost their winning formula with a 1-0 loss to The TBME.
The result was a fair reflection as Simple struggled to put away the chances that The TBME afforded to them.
Pat Issitt picked up MOTM despite the result.
Second-placed Evolution took full advantage as returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 victory over the disappointed Goaldiggers.
Evolution skipper Lee Church took the plaudits as MOTM, as his side moved to within two points of the leaders ahead of their clash on Monday night.
The evening’s final game saw Le Saux Solid Crew secure their title as the division’s in-form team with a 3-1 win over Tekkerslovakia.
Yet again Harry Ledger turned on the style with a MOTM performance against the Tekkers boys.
