Youth centre to reopen in autumn

A youth centre is set to reopen again thanks to a band of volunteers and a £5,000 grant.

Earlier this year the trustees of the Gosberton Youth Centre asked the parish council if the building donated to the village in 1977 should be sold for housing after being under utilised for several years.
Now a new management committee has been formed to re-establish it and a grant obtained to update the heating system.
It will now undergo a period of maintenance and is set to be back open in the autumn.
Ex committee member Daniel Carrott is the new chair, Barbs Mehew the vice chair and Richard Baker the treasurer.
Tom Mehew, who is also on the committee alongside John Clark, said: “The overwhelming support from the community saved the building
“A huge thank you goes to everyone who has been organising, supporting and obtaining donations to help the rebirth of the centre.
“Requests for support, donations and volunteers have been overwhelming from the local community, individuals and businesses.
“We have received donations of tables, chairs, raffle prizes, kitchen water urn, fruit, vegetables, flowers and a lot of time and enthusiasm.”
Fundraising for the maintenance of the Gosberton Youth Centre has already started with events including a charity fish and chip supper and race night having been held.
The next fundraiser is a Charity Sound Therapy Bath on Tuesday (July 25) from 6.30pm courtesy of Phoenix Mind Body Breathe. Entry is £12
They’ve also launched weekly Wednesday bingo sessions. Doors open 6.15pm for eyes down at 7pm.
The group has been applying for grants and been successful for the heating courtesy of the Lincolnshire Community Foundation and the Bicker Trust.
Thanking the organisations involved, Mr Carrott said: “Receiving this funding will give the centre a big step forward to achieving the goal to reopen the Youth Hub.
“We want to personally thank everyone who has made donations and or supported our fundraising events and activities to date.”
The hub closes on July 27 and hopes to reopen in the autumn with a Friday evening session for 11 to 17-year-olds between 6pm and 9pm.
They’re currently recruiting for volunteers to run it on a one Friday out of four rota basis.
