Andy Shortlands’ 5lb 9oz catch was not enough to earn a place in the opening Winter Series round.

Wright earns an early series lead

Spalding Fishing Club started their Winter Series on the River Glen on Sunday.
With a substantial increase in this year’s membership numbers, there were more anglers on the banks for the popular series.
A total of 20 anglers braved the frosty morning and were rewarded with some excellent fishing.
Leading the way from peg 17 was Mick Wright with 10lb 6oz of roach, rudd and bleak to gain an early lead in the
seven-match series.
Not far behind were Andy Wilson, 9:10, and Nick Witteman, 9:8.
Fourth, with a mainly perch catch was Gary Boxall, 8:10 and completing the day’s pay-out with section wins were Tom Gotobed, 6:11, section one, and Colin Fisher 7:7, section 2.
The next match is the Christmas Fayre on Sunday, December 17.
