Woman drove to police station not knowing she was banned from driving

A court has heard how a banned motorist drove into trouble at Spalding Police Station.

Victoria Doyle (41) did not realise she was disqualified when she took her Fiat Punto to a pre-arranged appointment, magistrates in Boston were told on Wednesday.

“It was then noted by officers that she was disqualified and they issued her with a summon,” said prosecutor Alexis Mercer.

Doyle, of Market Street, Long Sutton, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

In mitigation, solicitor Helen Coney said: “This is a case where the defendant had gone to the police station by prior arrangement.

“She was told she couldn’t drive her vehicle home, obviously.”

The court was told Doyle got in touch with DVLA to discover that she had been disqualified under the totting up procedure until January 10, 2024.

“At the time of this offence she had no idea she was disqualified,” added Miss Coney, who suggested it was due to a change of address.

Due to now relying on public transport, her client was finding it difficult to continue with 12-hour shifts at a factory in Spalding, said the solicitor.

Doyle was banned from driving for six weeks and fined £120.

She was also ordered to pay £48 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The defendant told the court she had sold the car shortly after the offence came to light.
