Woeful weekend for local sides in Peterborough and District League

It was a woeful day in the Peterborough League for local sides on Saturday.

Of 11 matches, only two resulted in wins – and one of those was between two local sides with Sutton Bridge United seeing off Crowland Town Reserves 3-2 in Division Two. Substitute Matt Eaton was the home hero with a brace to go with one from Alex Clements-Limb. Ethan Allen and an own goal made up the visitors’ tally.
The only side to overcome outside opposition were new boys South Lincs Swifts, who beat Sawtry Reserves 3-1 in Division Four at Sutterton. All the goals came in the first half with Jack Watson, Ben Mansour and Dawid Gos on the home scoresheet.
In the Premier Division clash of last season’s top two, Moulton Harrox fell 2-0 at reigning champions Uppingham Town.
Tydd were beaten 2-1 at Leverington Sports, where Max Burrell scored a late consolation. That result was matched by Holbeach United Reserves at Stamford Belvedere with Kieron McConnell the away scorer. Holbeach United Sports fell by the same score at home to Cardea in Division One, while Long Sutton Athletic were well beaten 4-0 at home by Wittering Premiair Reserves.
Whaplode Drove Rovers lost 2-0 at Kings Cliffe in Division Two, while a 10-goal thriller at Tydd Reserves went 6-4 in favour of visitors Deeping United Reserves. Charlie King struck twice for the hosts with Devon Furness and Jordi Henson also on target.
The goals also flowed in Division Three, where Long Sutton Athletic Reserves trailed 2-0 at Hampton United at half-time. Max Seaman, Toby Baggaley and Joe Oddie found the home net but the hosts were rampant and added six more of their own.
Whaplode Drove Rovers Reserves crashed 9-1 at home to AFC Malbourne with Ashley Setchfield getting the sole home goal.
A single goal from Louis Steadman was enough to get Moulton Harrox back to winning ways on Tuesday against derby rivals Holbeach United Reserves. Crowland also returned with all the points thanks to a 2-1 success at Oakham United.
