Weekend of fun in Spalding and Moulton Chapel

South Holland has two big attractions to keep families busy this Bank Holiday weekend.

Tulipfest from Saturday to Monday will include spectacular flower displays in Springfields Festival Gardens, where thousands of tulips are coming into bloom as part of the celebrations for the 50th birthday of the opening of the gardens in April 1966.

Over the weekend there will be a mix of family entertainment including Morris Dancers, a falconry display and fancy dress competition on Saturday, treasure hunt on the Sunday and petting zoo on the Monday, as well as train rides on the Springfields Miniature Railway and the Land Train.

On Sunday, over 250 cars will arrive at Springfields Events Centre with a mix of classic car clubs and private entries creating a fantastic opportunity to see some vintage cars close up. There will also be auto jumble stalls.

Over the three days there will be a craft fair with up to 80 stalls in the Events Centre, as well as bouncy castles and pony rides in the arena.

Entry to the Festival Gardens and the Tulipfest displays and activities is free on all three days. On Saturday and Monday the entry cost to the craft fair is £1.50 and on Sunday the entry cost for the classic car show (including the craft fair) is £3. Accompanied children under 16 go free.

Opening times for the craft show and classic car show are Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday and Monday 10am-4pm. The Festival Gardens are open from 10am each day, closing at 6pm on Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday and 5pm on the Sunday.

The annual Moulton Chapel Tulip Time Parade takes place on Sunday.

Commencing at 3pm from Woodgate Farm, the parade will be headed by the float carrying the Tuliptime Prince and Princesses.

There will be entertainment including Holbeach Town Band, Retrospekt, Endana School of Dance and Spalding Folk Club, both before and after the parade, as well as craft and trade stalls. There will also be displays of classic cars, vintage tractors, decorated bicycles and floats.

One man will be taking part in the parade after cycling from his home in South London. Alex Frost will cycle to to Cambridge on Saturday before moving on to Moulton Chapel on Sunday.

Residents are being encouraged to decorate a bike and take part in the parade to add a little extra colour and fun to this annual event. A prize is offered for the best one.
