The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Spalding Cycling Club had two members in the top three places as the Hereward League returned last Wednesday night.
Hosted by Peterborough Cycling Club, the inter-club league saw Spalding quartet Chris Ward, Neil Palmer, Gareth Richards and Mark Booth take on the ten-mile course.
It was a closely-contested race, with Dan Galpin (Bourne Wheelers) taking first place in a time of 21.57mins.
He was followed home by Ward and Palmer, who took a fantastic second and third place respectively – with only 13 seconds separating the Spalding duo.
A time of 25.51mins also represented another solid performance from Booth, with Richards coming home with a 27.16mins.
The next round is at Spalding’s popular Barrier Bank Course.
Absent from the Hereward League meet were in-form father and son duo Frazer and Josh Wallis.
Work prevented them from attending, so they instead went over to Boston Wheelers for their ten-mile test.
It was a blowy night with a headwind out and tail home.
Impressively, Josh Wallis managed to come home with the win in a new course record time of 19.54mins, which wiped just under 30 seconds off the previous record.
Frazer Wallis came home third as he continued his great run of form.
He was closer to his son than in previous weeks, clocking a 21.49mins to just miss out on a one-two.
