TEAM FOCUS – HORSE & GROOM: Currently sitting in the middle-tier of the Spalding & South Holland Voice 6-a-side League, Horse & Groom continue to provide a next-to-impossible outfit to predict. One week they’re beating the very best the league as the offer, the next they are struggling to turn over possession in a game they should, on paper, be strolling. Unpredictability aside, they are a tight and well organised outfit. Their mixed form has continued into this new campaign as they attempt to find their feet in a tight and competitive Championship division. Their indifferent form makes them dangerous opponents for anyone. Skipper Ryan Thompson said: “We’re just having fun. We’re lucky to have a decent, regular squad and we just try out best. We’re not here to put everything on the line for winning, just to enjoy the occasion. That said, who doesn’t want to win? We don’t try any less hard than the others in our division.”

Unbeaten Premier Division trio are sitting pretty at top of Voice League

Three teams are locked together on five points at the top of The Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League Premier Division table after a windy night of action at Surfleet on Monday.

Polishborough, Jimmy Floyd Bottlebank and The Predators all remain unbeaten after three rounds of fixtures at Glen Park as the table slowly begins to take shape.

The first game in the top tier was a non-starter after AFC Supernova failed to attend their fixture with Polishborough, giving the latter a 5-0 success.

Jimmy Floyd Bottlebank and The Predators then played out an intriguing 1-1 draw in what was an absorbing match.

Matt Cannon was man of the match (MOTM) for The Predators after he impressed referee Richard Wilde.

Newbies Gladiators were then given a baptism of fire in the toughest of tough top tiers as they were thrashed 7-0 by Football Club, who had a field day.

It would have been an even harsher scoreline if not for MOTM keeper Dom Richardson.

Should a space open up in the lower divisions, it is likely Gladiators will drop down.

The final game of the top tier was a six-goal thriller, split 3-3 between Univeg Team and You’ve Got No Fans.

Initially an enjoyable game to watch, it quickly spiralled into a melting pot of dissent and atrocious attitude, from YGNF at least, who seemed more intent on verbally destroying the match official rather than concentrating on their own game. Ricardo Silva was MOTM.

The Championship got under way with Maly & Team beating Pathetic Athletic 4-2 in a real cracker. Despite the blustery conditions, both sides were able to continually able to slice open each other’s backline.

Maly had the difference, though, and that came in the form of MOTM Tomas Urbanavicius.

Next up, Puyol Pants Down continued their perfect start to the season as they edged past Nibblesborough FC 2-1 in another great game.

Both sides naturally play pass-and-move football, so weren’t particularly affected by the windy conditions.

Cameron Walker was MOTM as he impressed referee Junior Jones-Eyre.

Another awesome match then saw Romasexuals beat Posh Old Boys 3-2. It puts an end to Posh’s impressive run of four straight wins and reignites Romasexuals, who had lost their previous match.

Damien Gibbons was the difference as he got MOTM.

The final game saw Simple FC score a late goal as their losing streak came to an end with a 1-1 draw against Horse and Groom. Leigh Boekestijn was MOTM.

League One, meanwhile, kicked off with Mail Carters earning a 2-0 victory over whipping boys How Far Can You Swim? as Chris Coulson got MOTM.

The big talking point of the ABCDE FC v Bowlcut Wanderers FC game was the return of goal-machine Michael Cope, as he lined-up for Bowlcut to face his former team-mates. It finished 3-3 – but Cope didn’t score. Alex Stokes was MOTM in this one.

The best attacking force in the division then played the best defensive outfit in the league – and defence won the day as FC Salad Fingers were held to a 0-0 stalemate against Tekkerslovakia.

Keeper Jamie Wroniak scooped MOTM as he constantly provided a last line of resistance against the attacking onslaught that Salad Fingers provided.

The final game of the night saw Loftus-Cheeky Nando’s beat a makeshift Dynamo Kiev 3-1. Alex Dormor was MOTM his Nando’s side stay third in the early standings.
