Tulips given boost by record sponsorship deal with EMG

Ambitious Spalding United have been given a major boost on the eve of the new season after striking a club record sponsorship deal.

The Tulips, who compete in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South, have teamed up with local Hyundai sales and Ford authorised repairer EMG Motor Group.

EMG, who are based on St John’s Road in Spalding, have signed a very generous three-year deal to sponsor the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field club – which is the best in their 94-year history.

Tulips press officer Ray Tucker said: “The club is very excited and extremely grateful to EMG for investing in us – and to our 18-year-old commercial manager Mark Carroll for negotiating the sponsorship package.

“We are very confident we can work closely together to fulfil our aim of progressing upwards through the football pyramid.”

EMG’s Paul Watkins-Groves added: “We are proud to sponsor Spalding United Football Club.

“We recognise that the club is moving forward and they have a vision of achieving Step Three football – which we would like to help them achieve”.

“As a recognised local firm, we believe in supporting our town and part of that is its football team. We wish Spalding United the best of luck in the forthcoming season and we will be supporting their journey for many seasons to come.”

Having narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season, Spalding are aiming to go one better and clinch promotion this time around.

The close season has seen big changes on and off the pitch, with a new consortium taking charge of the club, replacing long-serving chairman Chris Toynton at the head of the Tulips.

There is also massive growth in the club’s youth section, with the latest addition and under-18 side that will be managed by first team boss Pat Rayment.

Tucker continued: “We are entering into a completely new era as a club with lots of interest from local individuals and companies expressing wishes to be involved.

“And we have already begun to forge a better working relationship with our landlords, South Holland District Council.

“Working together, we firmly believe there are exciting times ahead for the club. We are a community club moving forward with a total of 18 teams from senior to under-7 currently involved.

“New to the structure this season is the introduction of an under-18 team.”

The Tulips return to pre-season training on Thursday night.
