The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Spalding Golf Club’s ladies welcomed 35 teams of four to their Spring Am-Am event at the Surfleet course.
The competition, played in a ‘waltz’ format, was won by the Toft Hotel Golf Club team of Cathy Lee, Linda Moss, Mary Stark and Lisa Hollingworth with 76 points.
Second place went to Helen Roscoe, Lorraine Robinson, Mandy Lees and Mairead Scott on 74 points, with May Burn, Lynne Fitzjohn, Corrine Everett and Kay Osborne coming in third on 72 points after countback.
Fourth, also on countback, were Patsy Clark, Andrea Smaggasgale, Allison Cook and Anne Wright, with Lizzie Cook, Jackie Reid, Marcia Kelland and Sarah Faircliff fifth. Both sides also bagged 72 points.
- A Team of five Spalding ladies’ travelled to Woodhall Spa to play in the second round of the ANNODATA knock out competition.
The Woodhall ladies team is always strong, particularly on their home ground – so the Spalding team and their supporters went prepared for a tough afternoon. But they pulled off an impressive 3-2 victory to progress.
Elaine Hancock captained the team and she won her match 4&2, while Angela Roper (5&4) and Mathilde Kedzlie (8&6) were also victorious.
Tilly Garfoot (3&2) and Claire Rylott (5&4) were both beaten, but Spalding still progressed.
The draw for the next round will take place later this month.
Some 14 pairs of lady members entered for the Hardy Cup, which was played as an 18-hole fourball/better ball Stableford competition.
The weather was kind and the course in excellent condition. The winners, with 36 points, were Jenny Van Gemeren and Julie Gooderson, with Barbara Newcombe and Claire Rylott (35pts) and Gill Dewhurst and Lainey Macleman (35pts) second and third respectively.
Sutton Bridge Golf Club
Nicola Elphick emerged as the winner at Sutton Bridge Golf Club’s Ladies’ Cup last week.
She had just too much for rivals Karent Gillett and Anne Clarke, who took second and third places respectively.
