There’s similar stories for Spalding’s sides

Spalding Town came up short at Scunthorpe in a rain affected game on Saturday.

Chasing 188 in a game reduced to 30 overs a side, they were bowled out 58 runs short with just less than 10 overs left.
The home side had the better of the conditions after electing to bat first with Thomas Giles hitting 39 from 26 balls in an opening partnership of 54 with Ian Snowden (20).
The former was first out, Barnaby Dring (1 for 16) inducing a catch to Mitch Freeman (1 for 28), the roles reversing for the wicket for the other opener.
Giles’ 39 proved to be the top score but Scunthorpe continued at quicker than a run a ball.
Notable knocks came from Henry Wilson (31), Izan Ul Shaikh (33 from 21) and Karanjit Bansal (29 from 23).
Scunthorpe closed on 187 for 7 with Josh Lawrence taking 2 for 28, William Gardner 1 for 30 and Nilantha Atapattu (1 for 33).
Spalding too needed to keep going at six an over, which they did, but also routinely losing wickets.
Jon Manton (31 from 21) and Freeman (15) gave them a decent start putting on 48 for the first wicket, but thereafter only three more players made double figures, Chris Dring the next top scorer with 19.
They were bowled out for 129 from the first ball of the 21st over.
Next up for Spalding is a trip to table toppers Lindum.
l It was a similar story for Spalding Town 2nd XI in the South Lincs and Border League Division One at Heckington.
Spalding skipper George Morris put the home side in for a game reduced to 27-over a side and his opening bowlers Harry Birch and Thomas De Camps gave them a great start.
The latter claimed 2 for 10 from seven overs and Birch 1 for 11 in his first spell as the Heckington top three amassed just seven runs between them.
Ajay Revu (44) and Pritesh Patel (41) though rebuilt the innings and 27 extras helped the home side up to 167 for 8.
Yuvraj Ranaut (2 for 19), Joe Watson (2 for 25) and George Morris (1 for 39) were Spalding’s other wicket takers.
Town quickly fell behind the run rate as they lost a steady stream of wickets but there was a fine knock of 60 from Harry Birch.
Otherwise though only opener Ranaut (15) and number nine Michael Morris (15 not out) reached double figures as Spalding closed on 132 for 8 taking seven points.
l Spalding Town 3rd XI got closer in their run chase at home to Heckington 2nd XI in Division Two, but they still fell 16 runs short.
Symon De Camps was the star with the ball for Spalding, claiming 4 for 21 from seven overs.
There was also 2 for 23 for Joseph Hirschfield, 1 for 29 from Billy Gallagher, 1 for 30 from Michael Healey and 1 for 32 from Luke Sorrell as Heckington scored 170 for 9 from their allotted 35 overs.
Spalding looked well out of it as a procession of batsman came to the crease and went with only opener Andrew Sorrell (17) and Healey (10) reaching double figures.
That was apart from number 10 Paul Lawrence, who hit an excellent 64 not out backed by Hirschfield (5 not out) to ensure his side earned nine points from the game though his team fell 16 runs short.
