Talks on return of hospital bus service go on

Buses may soon return to Spalding’s Johnson Hospital following talks over increased road safety.

Brylaine Travel has been in talks with local councillors, who agreed to enlarge a sign to warn drivers of slow turning vehicles. Final agreements still need to reached.

A statement from the firm said: “It was suggested that the erection of a large sign on the Spalding side of the Vernatts Bridge, pointing to the likelihood of slow turning vehicles being in the path of traffic on the main road, would go a long way to reducing the risk of an incident.”

Brylaine stopped the service in 2014, citing  safety concerns and insufficient passenger numbers.

The firm has indicated it is prepared to reinstate the service initially at a possible loss to try to boost patient numbers.

Adding: “It is hoped one will perpetuate the other, in that better bus services will improve the accessibility of the hospital and, thereby, help  increase the number of users in order to safeguard it.”
