TABLE TENNIS: Still all to play for in top flight

The destination of the Division 1 title in Spalding and District Table Tennis League – sponsored by Vital Recruitment – is still unclear.

Leaders South Holland caught up on one match, with rivals Bladerunners, and came out 4-1 losers with Pete Budd winning his singles.

Bladerunners went on to play Outsiders twice.
Colin Vertigan, doubling up once again with a second division match, took a double in both matches and helped Dave Gibson to take both doubles.
Keith Davey picked up a fine win so that while Blades had a clean sweep in one match the other finished 4-1.

Blades now have 58 points to Holland’s 62 but with matches to play and to finish they still have between them 30 points up for grabs which may yet decide the title.

Jokers could, in theory, join the fight but with three matches to complete against Holland are probably too far back.
Meanwhile, they met JDM, but both teams only had one player.
JDM’s Phil Chandler won that game narrowing the odds still further.

Division 2’s Mine’s a Pint continued their good season with two wins to complete their fixtures.
First of all, Jeremy Hitcham and Andrew Hay took all five against Team Equinox, though Tony Dorey took an end and the junior pair took an end in the doubles.

They then defeated Bourne Nightmayors 4-1, Phil Knowles grabbing one for the Bourne pair who nearly managed another in the doubles, pushing it to the fifth.

The Pinters now have 60 points and are seven clear of Skidlids who can only get five more points.
All other teams are out of reach except Hurricane Brothers. They won against Castle Sports 3-2, Vertigan picking up Sports’ two, and now have 45.

However, with two matches to finish and two to play the Brothers could make 62, though they have games to finish with Young Guns and MatDuf who are presently one ahead and one behind.
MatDuf dented their chances when they completed their match with Nightmayors who won 3-2.
They also started the scheduled match with Young Guns who only had Division 2 champion Daniel Dorey available; enough to take the two games played.

Earlier, South Holland came from behind against Bladerunners in an unfinished match to win the Moulton Shield competition.
