A late strike from Jordan Smith ended Spalding United’s hopes of reaching the Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup final on Thursday night.

Stamford stalwart Smith nodded home from close range with nine minutes of the semi-final remaining at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field to book the Daniels a final with Cleethorpes Town.

The visitors had taken a 21st-minute lead when Sam Grouse buried a Reece Morris cross, but Luke White levelled matters with a left-footed drive with 25 minutes remaining.

It’s the second time in three seasons that Graham Drury’s Stamford have dumped the Tulips out at the last four stage.

Tulips: Duggan, Floyd, Fixter, Moyses, Hugo, King (Zuerner 60), Brooks (Clarke 78), Lemon, Lockie, Siddons, White (Chipamaunga 78). Not used: Christopher, Sanders.

Attendance: 136.
