Spalding’s gymnasts prove that the future is very bright

Spalding Gymnastics Club’s young guns shone at a competition hosted by TJ Gymnastic Club in Boston.
This was a friendly competition involving clubs from all over Lincolnshire –and it was well supported by enthusiastic children and parents alike.
The first round – for the beginners – saw Spalding win medals in all pieces, while Sophie Wells won the overall trophy for this round.
Spalding had 11 gymnasts competing at that level.
Round two was the turn of the next level of competitors – and once again Spalding collected medals in all pieces with their seven girls all performing admirably.
Rosie Willerton was the club’s top performer at this level, finishing third overall.
The final round of the day offered a chance for Spalding’s development squad to go through their routines.
Once again they picked up an array of medals, including a top award for Lucy Rudd who won the overall trophy.
A Spalding spokesperson said: “It was a  brilliant day for everyone involved in the preparation of these budding stars.”
Spalding’s boys were in action at the Northamptonshire Floor and Vault Championships held at Corby – and achieved some great results.
In the novice level 7/8 years age group, Elliott Brooks won the gold medal.
Up in the 9/10 years age group there was another gold medal winner in Marco Vertuccio, while team-mates Luke Jakins (fourth), Joshua Smith (fifth) and Lewis Burton  (eighth) hot on his heels.
Completing the novice group was Jorge Bradford, who also won gold.
At intermediate standard (9/10 year) Taylor Binns took the silver ahead of Lucas Webb, who bagged bronze.
The 11/12 age group saw Tom Martin win the silver, ahead of Daniel Yates in the bronze medal position and Josh Pearson (fourth).
The final intermediate age group saw Ollie-Joe Rushton win the gold and Zac Chapman land bronze.
In the advanced section Spalding’s boys were up against regional competitors.
And, although they looked impressive in their presentation and floor work, they are not quite there with their skill work just yet.
However, they still finished in creditable positions with  Luke Waterson fourth, Dan Martin fifth and Jamie Waterson sixth.
Overall, it was another top day for the Cradge Bank club.
